Verizon to acquire Sensity Systems to step up IoT biz

Verizon Wireless
Verizon Communications today announced its deal to acquire Sensity Systems Inc., a smart city technology company based in the U.S.

The strategy of Verizon Communications is to enhance its presence in the rapidly growing IoT business and smart city solution offerings.

Sunnyvale, California-based Sensity Systems capitalizes on conversions to LED lighting – a process that will affect 4 billion lights worldwide over the next few years – to create a high-speed, sensor-based IoT platform. Sensity has 42 smart city installations across the globe supplied through its ecosystem partners.

“Sensity is a provider of IoT solutions for smart communities with an ecosystem of partners, and this transaction will accelerate the deployment of implementations that will drive the digital transformation of cities, universities and venues,” said Mike Lanman, senior vice president – Enterprise Products and IoT at Verizon.

Verizon, a leading telecom operator in the U.S., has developed connected-intelligent solutions including parking, lighting, traffic management and security that improve livability, resiliency and public safety for local communities.
