TRAI to finalize recommendations on call drop issue next month

TRAI Chairman Ram Sewak Sharma
Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) Chairman R.S. Sharma said here on Thursday said he hopes to come out with recommendations on call drops by mid-October.

The sector regulator has sought comments from telecom service providers till September 21 and the counter comments on it by September 28. Following which there will be an open house discussion on the call drop issue.

The TRAI has already floated a consultation paper on this issue.

“I expect that by October 10-15, we will give the final recommendations in this regard,” Sharma told reporters on the sidelines of an event organised by Assocham.

Aiming to end the call drop menace, the TRAI will conduct another test drive to measure the quality of telecom services in the next two weeks, Sharma said on Wednesday.

“Almost all the telecom operators failed the quality of service drive test,” the sector regulator chief told reporters after holding a meeting with bigwigs of telecom companies.

He mentioned that the operators were appraised of the quality of services.
