Telecom Italia will be investing nearly $16.5 billion or €14.5 billion towards Capex (capital spending) during 2015-2017.
The main investment focus areas will be Italy and not Brazil.
As per the detailed plans announced today, Telecom Italia will be investing approximately €10 billion in Italy and over €4 billion in Brazil. Its investment in Brazil will enable 4G coverage to reach to over 15,000 sites and 3G coverage to over 14,000 sites by 2017.
Telecom Italia will invest nearly €3 billion euros in the next three years to develop optic fiber in Italy against €1.9 billion planned earlier. Its investment in FTTH will be €500 million.
By 2017 this acceleration of investment in optic fiber is expected to increase the number of active customers by approximately 1 million compared to the targets of the previous plan.
Out of the total Capex of €14.5 billion, Telecom Italia will be spending around €5 billion for innovative developments such as NGN, LTE, Cloud Computing , data centers, Sparkle and transformation.
In 2017, optic fiber will reach 75 percent of the population, and 95 percent will have access to 4G in Italy, said Telecom Italia.
The meeting chaired by Giuseppe Recchi has decided that investment in Telecom Italia’s mobile broadband will be €900 million.
Telecom Italia will be investing nearly €500 million for creating new data centers to support Cloud services and to introduce innovation in IT systems for new offer and business models.
This apart, it will invest €200 million to develop international connections in fiber (Telecom Italia Sparkle).
Nearly €500 million will be invested in transformation activities to simplify and upgrade the infrastructure, to achieve a structural reduction in operating costs.
Telecom Italia will be hiring around 4,000 people over the next four years. Despite this, Telecom Italia has set itself the target of reducing labor costs by €100 million.
