T-Mobile Expands India Presence with Hyderabad GCC, Targets 1,000 Employees by 2027

U.S. telecom operator T-Mobile has strengthened its presence in India by launching a new Global Capability Center (GCC) in Hyderabad, Telangana, with plans to employ nearly 1,000 professionals by 2027. The move highlights the growing importance of India as a strategic hub for technology, software development, cybersecurity, and digital innovation for global enterprises.

The Hyderabad GCC was inaugurated on Thursday and will operate from a 250,000-square-foot facility leased by T-Mobile in the Telangana capital. According to the state government’s IT ministry, the center will serve as a key technology and innovation hub supporting the company’s global operations.

T-Mobile’s new facility will focus on building advanced capabilities across software engineering, DevOps, product development, data analytics, cybersecurity, and other digital technologies. The investment reflects the company’s commitment to accelerating technology innovation while leveraging India’s deep pool of engineering and technology talent.

Chandra Gupta, Vice President of Information Technology at the T-Mobile technology center, said Hyderabad offers a strong combination of skilled technology professionals, innovation capabilities, and a mature business ecosystem that supports global technology operations.

India’s GCC sector has evolved significantly over the past decade. What began primarily as a destination for cost-effective outsourcing has transformed into a strategic innovation engine where multinational companies manage critical business functions, research, product development, and digital transformation initiatives.

A recent Nasscom-Zinnov report noted that nearly two-thirds of new GCCs established in India are choosing Bengaluru and Hyderabad, reinforcing the two cities’ leadership in attracting global technology investments, Reuters news report said.

The expansion comes as T-Mobile continues to deliver strong financial performance in its core U.S. market. The company reported total service revenues of $18.8 billion, representing an 11 percent year-over-year increase. Postpaid service revenues rose 15 percent to $15.6 billion, reflecting continued customer growth and higher account value.

T-Mobile added 217,000 postpaid net accounts during the period, a 6 percent increase from the previous year, while Postpaid Average Revenue Per Account (ARPA) increased 3.9 percent to $151.93. Net income reached $2.5 billion, down 15 percent year-over-year, primarily due to costs associated with its UScellular merger, including accelerated depreciation charges totaling $476 million after tax.

The Hyderabad GCC is expected to play an important role in supporting T-Mobile’s future technology roadmap, AI-driven initiatives, software development programs, and digital transformation efforts as the telecom operator continues to expand its service offerings and customer base globally.
