Sprint slashes international call rates

American wireless carrier Sprint has slashed international call rates to select Hispanic and Latin American countries by offering special plans.

This is a limited period plan. The promotion – called — Sprint Mexico & More 500 add-on — runs through December 5, 2014.

New customers who switch to any Sprint plan will receive 500 free minutes of calling per month through 2015 to mobile phones and landlines in Mexico and 9 additional Hispanic and Latin American countries, including the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Spain and Brazil.

After the 500 minutes each month, the price for calls to Mexico will be $.01 per minute and low per minute rates are offered to the 9 other countries.

After December 31, 2015, customers will $5 per month for the plan. Existing Sprint customers can also add Sprint Mexico & More 500 for $5 per month with a qualifying plan.

The below chart has the international calling rates of Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon and AT&T.

“In the U.S., 36 percent of Hispanics are foreign-born and rely on mobile phones to stay connected, especially in those special moments when they can’t physically be there,” said Marcelo Claure, Sprint CEO.

Customers can combine the Sprint Mexico & More 500 add-on with any eligible base plan, including the Sprint Simply Unlimited and Sprint Family Share Pack plans.

For iPhone users, the Sprint Simply Unlimited Plan provides unlimited talk, text and data all while on America’s Newest Network for only $50 / month.

Sprint Family Share Pack offers up to 10 lines, 20GB of shared data and unlimited talk & text for $100 a month through 2015.
