SingTel revenue up 4% to S$4.43 billion in third quarter

Singapore Telecommunications or SingTel said its revenue rose nearly 4 percent to S$4.43 billion in Q3 2014 – supported by mobile customer growth and revenue from acquisitions in its digital business.

Strong mobile data growth and higher contributions from its regional associates including Bharti Airtel have boosted SingTel’s net profit to grow 11 percent to S$970 million for the three months ended December 2014.

“In Singapore and Australia, we proactively acquired and re-contracted customers on the back of smartphone launches and successfully upgraded them to higher tiered data plans,” said SingTel Chief Executive Officer Chua Sock Koong.

Reuters reported that Singtel’s share of pre-tax profits from its regional mobile associates grew 24 percent, helped by Indonesia’s PT Telekomunikasi Selular (Telkomsel) and Bharti Airtel.

The combined mobile customer base of SingTel rose 9 percent to 543 million as at December 31. The Singapore-based telecom company maintained its previously issued outlook, but said mobile service revenue from Australia for the financial year is expected to increase in the low single digits, instead of decrease.
