Today’s telecom news includes announcements on Semtech, Palo Alto Networks, PHY Wireless, among others.

Semtech and Palo Alto Networks Strengthen Industrial IoT Security
Semtech and Palo Alto Networks have integrated Semtech’s AirLink secure edge 5G/LTE routers and network-management portfolio with Palo Alto Networks’ Next-Generation Firewalls to strengthen security for industrial IoT and critical infrastructure. The integration combines machine-learning-powered threat protection, network visibility and control with Zero Trust security and automated public-key infrastructure. The solution is designed to provide automated edge-to-core protection while reducing operational complexity for utilities and other connected infrastructure operators. The partnership addresses growing cybersecurity requirements as industrial networks become increasingly connected through 5G and IoT technologies, giving operators a scalable approach to protecting distributed devices, networks and critical infrastructure against evolving cyber threats.
Semtech Advances 50G Optical Fronthaul for AI-Driven 5G-Advanced
Semtech has announced production availability of its mobile transport portfolio supporting 50G optical fronthaul for emerging 5G-Advanced deployments. The portfolio supports 10-km, 15-km bidirectional and wavelength-division multiplexing links, addressing rising uplink traffic from generative AI, multimodal AI and augmented-reality applications. Semtech said the technology is designed to support current 5G-Advanced deployments while providing a pathway toward 6G through 2030. The development reflects growing demand for higher-capacity optical interfaces as operators upgrade radio access networks to accommodate increasingly data-intensive mobile applications. By increasing fronthaul capacity, the technology can help operators prepare networks for heavier AI-driven traffic and evolving requirements across advanced wireless services.
PHY Wireless Strengthens Leadership to Accelerate IoT Expansion
PHY Wireless has appointed wireless industry veteran and venture-capital leader Andrew Garman as a strategic advisor as the company expands carrier engagements, customer deployments and commercialization of its hellaPHY platform. The edge-based cellular positioning technology provides location intelligence directly on devices for massive IoT, private 5G and next-generation wireless networks, reducing reliance on cloud-based positioning. Garman brings more than 30 years of technology, wireless and investment experience and previously helped manage more than $700 million across multiple funds while investing in more than 60 technology startups. PHY Wireless said his industry relationships and commercialization expertise will support the transition of customers from pilots toward larger-scale deployments of location technology for connected devices.
