East: Mobile service provider Saudi Telecom (STC) has selected
wireless equipment from Nokia Siemens Networks to expand its GSM, 3G and 4G
across the Kingdom.
The agreement includes modernizing administrative system’s
network, which has been deployed by STC to effectively monitor, manage and
operate GSM networks, especially 3G and 4G.
With more and more subscribers using bandwidth-intensive
applications for smart phones, STC decided to modernize its existing GSM and 3G
networks.
STC and Nokia Siemens have enjoyed a longstanding strategic
relationship, which is promising to move ahead toward more expansion in the
coming days. User experience with 4G is much more enhanced and satisfactory as
compared to traditional mobile broadband technologies,” said Zeyad Thamer
Al-Otaibi, STC Group CEO for Technical Operations.
This move is in continuation with STC Group’s leadership in
MENA and introduction of its service to both Kuwait and Bahrain.
The contract comes as an extension and reiteration of our
commitment to 4G in the world and as we consider STC as our long-standing
partner. Our expertise in 4G technology and strong service support have helped
STC deliver on its plans to modernize its nationwide network and roll out 4G
services faster,” said Igor Leprince, head of the Middle East region at Nokia
Siemens Networks.
Airtel to launch TD-LTE services this year in India, signs deal
with Nokia Siemens Networks
Recently, Indian telecom major Bharti Airtel appointed Nokia
Siemens Networks to manage its TD-LTE network in Maharashtra. The operator
plans to launch TD-LTE services this year in India’s fastest growing telecom
market.
The service will offer a much improved experience when using
bandwidth-intensive applications, with more consistent network coverage and
faster response times (low latency). Bharti Airtel will deploy its TD-LTE
network in the 2.3 GHz frequency band allocated by the Indian government for
broadband wireless access technologies.
