Myanmar shares list of 12 telecoms in final race for 2 telecom licenses

Telecom Lead Asia: 12 companies are in the final race for bagging 2 telecom licenses in Myanmar.

Interestingly, American telecom majors are not looking for spectrum in Myanmar.

As per the current list, Bharti Airtel has submitted the bid without any consortium partners. SingTel, an investor in Bharti Airtel, is also in the final race.

The following are the final 12 companies:

1) Bharti Airtel

2) Axiata

3) Digicel

4) Millicom International Cellular (MIC)

5) Qatar Telecom (Qtel/Ooredoo)

6) Telenor

7) Viettel

8) France Telecom-Orange and Marubeni

9) Vodafone and China Mobile

10) MTN Consortium (consisting of MTN Dubai, M1 Telecom and Amara Communications)

11) KDDI, Sumitomo, Myanmar Information and Communication Technology Development (MICTDC) and A1 Construction

12) Singtel, KBZ and Myanmar Telephone Company (M-Tel)

These twelve groups continue to the final stage of the award process and have time till 3 June 2013 to submit their applications to the Telecommunications Operator Tender Evaluation and Selection Committee.

The committee expects to announce the winners of the competition by 27 June.
