In a strategic move marking a leadership transition at MTN, Jens Schulte-Bockum, the current GCOO (Group Chief Operating Officer) and a pivotal figure within the Group Exco, will step down from his role when his fixed-term contract concludes on March 31, 2024.
MTN expressed its gratitude to Jens for his instrumental role in the scaling of the core connectivity business across various segments, including home, fiber, enterprise, and network as a service (NaaS), aligning with the Ambition 2025 strategy. Additionally, Jens spearheaded the acceleration of the Group’s digital services platforms, particularly driving the Ayoba super app and the API marketplace capability Chenosis.
Post his GCOO term, Jens will continue to serve as a non-executive director on the boards of MTN South Africa, MTN Nigeria, and Bayobab.
Simultaneously, MTN announced the appointment of Selorm Adadevoh to succeed Jens as the Group Chief Commercial Officer (GCCO), effective April 1, 2024. Selorm, who previously served as the CEO of MTN Ghana since joining the company in 2018, brings extensive experience from roles held within the Digicel Group and Millicom/Tigo.
In a corresponding move, Stephen Blewett has been appointed as the new CEO of MTN Ghana, succeeding Selorm from April 1, 2024. Stephen, who rejoined MTN in July 2023 as the Operations Executive for Markets, brings a wealth of experience from his tenure within MTN and his previous roles within the Digicel Group.
The leadership transition at MTN signals a strategic shift in key roles, underscoring the company’s commitment to its long-term strategies and the seamless continuity of operations amidst changes in leadership.
