The partnership seeks to improve cost efficiencies, expand coverage, and provide better mobile services, particularly in remote and rural areas.

MTN Group CEO Ralph Mupita emphasized the strong demand for digital services and the benefits of resource-sharing for efficiency and returns.

Airtel Africa CEO Sunil Taldar highlighted the balance between competition and infrastructure collaboration to drive inclusion and operational efficiencies. Network sharing is part of a global trend to enhance service quality while managing costs.

Beyond Uganda and Nigeria, the companies are exploring similar opportunities in Congo-Brazzaville, Rwanda, and Zambia, including RAN and fibre-sharing agreements. Both companies remain independent competitors while working collaboratively to improve connectivity across Africa.
