Manoj Kohli resigns from Airtel

Manoj Kohli, MD of Bharti Enterprises, has resigned from the board of Bharti Airtel.

Bharti Airtel, in a filing to BSE, announced Kohli has resigned as non-executive director, Economic Times reported.
Shishir Priyadarshi has been appointed as an independent director, Airtel said.

However, Kohli will continue as MD of Bharti Enterprise focusing on emerging enterprise business including retail, the company said.

The announcement marks the formal exit of Kohli, who held leadership roles in Bharti Airtel since 2002, from the telecom group.

During his tenure as India head, Kohli helped the company increase its customer base from 1 million to 140 million.

Kohli was shifted to head African operations in 2010, but in 2013, he was shifted  back to India with multiple roles in several markets, but with no direct responsibility for India’s telecom market.

Earlier this year, Airtel further announced Kohli is stepping down as managing director & CEO (International) of the telecom service provider, moving him completely out of daily operations of Airtel’s telecom business.

Since then he has been looking after the non-telecom business of Bharti Enterprises in a new role.
