KPN deploys C-RAN small cell solution in a bus stop

KPN
Telecom network operator KPN has deployed C-RAN small cell solution in a bus stop on the Rembrandtplein in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

By deploying the C-RAN small cell solution, in partnership with telecom network vendor Ericsson and advertising company JCDecaux, KPN aims to provide mobility for users moving in and out of the small cell coverage area.

The solution equipped with Ericsson’s new Radio 2203 and integrated into the macro network using a centralized baseband deployment will assist KPN to meet mobile customers’ needs for capacity and app coverage.

KPN will be using common baseband that provides optimal coordination between macro and small cells. Best TCO, performance and spectrum utilization are the main benefits when embedding small cells into an existing macro environment. Inter-site carrier aggregation is added between macro cells operating on 800MHz and small cells on 1800MHz.
