The GSMA Board of Directors has elected Ralph Mupita as Deputy Chair until the end of 2026. In this role, he will support the Chair and Board in guiding the organization’s strategic direction, representing mobile operators and the broader mobile ecosystem worldwide.

Earlier, GSMA elected Gopal Vittal – Vice Chairman and MD of Bharti Airtel, as its new Chairman, until the end of 2026.
Ralph Mupita expressed his commitment to leveraging mobile technology to address challenges and drive digital adoption, particularly in Africa and the Global South. He emphasized GSMA’s role in fostering innovation and ensuring inclusive connectivity.

Ralph Mupita has been the Group President and CEO of MTN Group since September 2020, previously serving as MTN’s Chief Financial Officer. Under his leadership, MTN strengthened its financial position and successfully listed subsidiaries in Ghana, Nigeria, Rwanda, and Uganda.
Before joining MTN, he was CEO of Old Mutual Emerging Markets, overseeing financial services in Africa, Latin America, and Asia. Ralph Mupita holds a BSc. Engineering (Hons) and an MBA from the University of Cape Town and completed the General Management Program at Harvard Business School.
