Globe Telecom today said its Capex (capital spending) for H1 2014 was approximately P11.0 billion to support the growing subscriber base and its demand for data.
The company spent approximately 54 percent on data-related access and transport infrastructure, including transmission capacities and international cable facilities.
Data-related access investments included deployments in Globe’s wireless 3G broadband, HSPA+ and LTE access and roll-outs for fixed broadband and LTE @Home solutions while 16 percent of the Capex was made for core-related services, including payments for the network transformation program, and coverage solutions.
Meanwhile, Globe Telecom said its revenue rose 6 percent to P24.5 billion, driven by solid subscriber growth — mobile and broadband – in Q2 2014.
Mobile revenues grew 5 percent to P19.3 billion in Q2 2014 from P18.5 billion in Q1 2014.
Mobile data services revenue increased 23 percent quarter-on-quarter to P3.4 billion.
The company’s Free Facebook promotion boosted mobile data users to reach 8.91 million on monthly average basis from 5.4 million pre-Facebook promotion.
Voice revenues were flat at first quarter levels, while SMS revenues rose 3 percent quarter-on-quarter, said Globe Telecom.
Globe Telecom net profit increased 18 percent from a year earlier.

Revenues in the January to June rose 7 percent to P47.7 billion, while net profit reached P6.8 billion from P1.4 billion a year earlier.

Globe’s mobile telephony segment revenues increased 5 percent to P37.8 billion.
At the end of June 2014, the company’s mobile subscriber base reached 42.7 million, up 18 percent from 36.1 million a year ago and 5 percent higher from the end of the first quarter of 2014.
