EGoM to meet on spectrum auction, merger norms on Friday

The empowered group of ministers (EGoM) on spectrum — headed by finance minister P Chidambaram — is likely to meet on Friday to finalize the reserve price for the spectrum auctions that are likely to happen in January 2014.

Moneycontrol.com reported that the Friday meeting is also likely to discuss final norms for the merger and acquisition (M&A) guidelines. Telecoms such as Bharti Airtel, Vodafone India, Idea Cellular, Reliance Communications, etc. are waiting for the M&A policy.

Earlier, telecom minister Kapil Sibal indicated that the new M&A guidelines will be announced by 15 November.

The other focus areas of the meeting will include: auction for the 800 MHz CDMA spectrum band, issue of 900 MHz spectrum auction, among other things.
