Data traffic helps China Mobile post 6% revenue growth in 9 months

Telecom Lead India: Data traffic has assisted China Mobile to post revenue of RMB408.6 billion in first nine months of 2012, up 6.4 percent over the same period of last year.

The world’s largest telecom operator based on mobile users posted profit of RMB93.3 billion, up 1.4 percent over the same period of last year.

Cheap handsets and low call rates contributed to the revenue growth.

China Mobile said average monthly net additional customers exceeded 5.4 million and that the company continued to lead the industry.

3G customers of China Mobile stood at 75.60 million.

ARPU growth was flat 67 RMB/user/month.

Total voice usage increased to 3,122 billion minutes from 2,060.5 billion in first six months of the calendar year.

China Mobile promoted its voice business and has experienced steady growth in the voice usage volume. Total voice usage for the first three quarters of 2012 increased by 8.6 percent compared to the same period of last year.

Average Minutes of Usage per User per Month (MOU) during the reporting period decreased to 515 minutes from 518 minutes in first six months of the calendar year.

Wireless data traffic grew to 626.0 billion MB from 389.2 billion MB. Out of this, mobile data traffic 200.1 billion MB from 122.2 billion MB.

The wireless data traffic in the first three quarters of 2012 increased by 188.1 percent compared to the same period of last year.

The data businesses of Mobile Mailbox, Mobile Reading and Mobile Video have maintained rapid growth.
