CES 2012: AT&T unveils 4G LTE Android smartphones and tablet planned for early 2012

By Telecom Lead Team: Mobile service provider AT&T
Mobility has unveiled five smartphones and one tablet powered by 4G LTE
and the Android platform at the AT&T Developer Summit. All smartphones and
tablets are planned for availability from AT&T in early 2012.

AT&T has unveiled the new LTE Samsung smartphone,
Samsung Galaxy Note, a 5.3-inch device with Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket
HD, and the Samsung Exhilarate. The Samsung Exhilarate will also be introduced
at an affordable price, below $50.

“Delivering a first-class mobile broadband
experience to our customers is at the forefront of everything we do. To
achieve this, we’re bringing together the industry’s best 4G smartphone
portfolio, a blazing fast LTE 4G network, and innovative applications that stem
from our collaborative relationship with the developer community,”
said Ralph de la Vega, president and CEO, AT&T
Mobility and Consumer Markets.

The carrier also announced the first 4G LTE smartphone
from Sony–the Xperia ion, which will be available with AT&T from
second quarter of 2012.

Additionally, the carrier has introduced the first
LTE-connected Android tablet under $300–the Pantech Element,
with the Pantech Burst, a consumer-oriented device for under $50. For a
limited time, customers may buy the Pantech Element and Burst together on
contract and get the Element for$249.99 and the Burst at no cost.

At the Developer Summit, AT&T also provided an update
on its 4G LTE network build and outlined the benefits of its blended network
technologies approach, which offers customers with compatible devices
consistently fast 4G speeds in and out of 4G LTE areas.

The AT&T Developer Summit is a two-day event for
software developers to participate in a Hackathon. AT&T remains focused on
opening up its network to developers and creating opportunities for
collaboration. The two-day AT&T Developer Summit underscores this
commitment.

Recently, AT&T and TiVO entered into a mutual patent licensing arrangement, with the
settlement of pending patent litigation by TiVo.

AT&T agreed
to pay TiVo an initial payment of $51 million, followed by recurring quarterly
guaranteed payments through June 2018, totaling $164 million, which together
yield minimum payments of $215 million.
