A tribute to its women employees on the occasion of Women’s Day, Bharti Airtel said that it is increasing maternity leave for its women employees from 12 weeks to 22 weeks.

This is in addition to the flexible work options to working mothers to ensure a smooth transition to full working hours. The Company’s office in Gurgaon also provides modern day care facilities for children.

The Policy has been updated in line with Company’s endeavor to make Airtel a great place to work and promote gender diversity across all management levels, company officials said. The objective is to provide adequate support to employees to balance between their role as parents and their professional commitments at work.

In a statement, Airtel said, “The Company recognizes the physical, emotional and psychological demands of both childbirth and adoption. The revised policy re-iterates the Company’s commitment to provide the same role or an equivalent role to the employee on return after 22 weeks. The rating of the employee for the assessment year will based on the employee’s performance and contribution during the period she was working.”

In case of adoption, if the child’s age is less than 2 years, women employees can avail 12 weeks of leave and if age is above 2 years then then 6 weeks. Male employees can avail of 1 week of leave in both the cases.

Gopal Vittal, MD & CEO (India & South Asia), Bharti Airtel, said. “We are fully committed to promoting gender diversity across all levels of the organization. With this new policy, our aim is to offer adequate work-life balance to women employees and ensure that they continue to contribute to the Airtel growth story.”
