Airtel, DoT conduct awareness program on SIM activation

Telecom operator Bharti Airtel — in partnership with TERM Cell Delhi, Department Of Telecommunications (DoT), has organized a program to create awareness about guidelines for new SIM activations for its network of retailers and distributors.

The session, aimed at ensuring highest standards of DoT guidelines by its retail partners, educated the distributors on correct measures for customer verification and documentation as prescribed by the Government.

Airtel, which has more than 260 million subscribers in India, plans to help retailers and distributors to ensure compliance with DoT guidelines during the documentation process.

Ram Narain, senior deputy director general (TERM), Department of Telecommunications, has chaired the session. In addition to Bharti Airtel officials, NK Chhoker, DDG, TERM Cell Delhi was present.

The main focus of the program was to create awareness about the role of retailers and distributors in ensuring potential misuse of mobile connections.

“We ensure that thorough customer verification at the time of new activation is an undisputed mandate adherence by our distribution partners. We have already deployed Aadhar based eKYC verification, which is not only faster but also efficient,” said Sameer Chug, director – Legal & Regulatory Affairs (India & South Asia), Bharti Airtel.
