Aircel removes roaming charges for users across its network

Telecom Lead Asia: Aircel, in line with India’s National Telecom Policy 2011-12 recommendations, has removed roaming charges for its users across its network.

Several other mobile operators are in the process of addressing the new National Telecom Policy which may be effective in March 2013.

Though removing roaming charges will be a major financial burden for telecom operators, Aircel has become the first to do so.

Aircel’s One Nation, One Rate product offers one rate for voice, SMS and data in home circles and on roaming on Aircel network.

As per the one nation, one rate tariff plan, Aircel provides One India tariff to Aircel customers. The product is available in Delhi for Rs 39.

Aircel is offering Voice – Local/National calling at 1paisa/second in Home circle as well as on roaming on Aircel network. Incoming calls while on Roaming on Aircel network will be free.

Aircel has priced SMS – Local and National SMS at Re 1/SMS in Home circle as well as while on roaming.

The operator said mobile data–user will be able to carry the home circle rate while on roaming. Aircel has been the pioneer of data revolution in the country.

Aircel expects that the one nation, one rate concept will enable it to take a lead in the voice space as well.

“We believe that the launch of this product will create a community of Aircel users and will mark the start of an important chapter in India’s telecom growth story,” said Anupam Vasudev, chief marketing officer, Aircel.
