Telecom network operator Aircel announced the launch of its Swacch Vidyalaya Program in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
Aircel in association with NGOs has dedicated clean toilets and sanitation facilities in 50 schools in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
Aircel will contribute towards investing in areas like advocacy and education of healthy sanitation practices in schools in different parts of the country. Out of the 50 schools, 33 are in Chennai, 7 in Coimbatore and 10 in Puducherry.
Brinda Malhotra, head of Corporate Social Responsibility at Aircel, said: “We will place emphasis on the behavioural change aspect of sanitation and hygiene by working to institutionalize healthy practices in India.”
The program is designed to address aspects such as construction of toilet blocks with equipment; advocacy and education to bring about behavioural change around sanitation and hygiene like promoting regular hand wash practice among children, parents and nearby communities; and maintenance and upkeep of the toilet blocks in schools.
