AI takes center stage at India Mobile Congress 2024: revolutionizing telecom and technology

Innovations and use cases of Artificial Intelligence (AI) have emerged as the star of the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2024, held at New Delhi.

Over 900 technology use cases, with 750 focused on AI, were showcased by a wide array of tech and telecom companies, startups, and educational institutions during the four-day event.

The AI-based solutions presented were diverse, spanning conservation, convenience, safety, and automation. They ranged from virtual agents managing contact center workloads to AI systems addressing doctor shortages in remote areas.

AI-Powered Innovations and Solutions

Some standout technologies included AI systems for railway safety, which send alerts for unusual activities on tracks.

Telecom operator Bharti Airtel launched India’s first AI-driven spam detection tool to combat unwanted calls and messages in real-time.

Telecom equipment maker Ericsson’s robotic dog, Rocky, demonstrated how 5G-powered AI can aid emergency response efforts.

Mobile network supplier Nokia showcased innovations in 5G, 6G, AI/ML, and network infrastructure to promote sustainability.

Mobile service provider Reliance Jio has previewed its PhoneCall AI feature, which transcribes and summarizes phone calls.

Telecom operator Vodafone Idea highlighted real-time diagnostics over high-speed networks, providing affordable healthcare options for rural areas.

Startups Leading the AI Revolution

Startups displayed AI-driven solutions in fields such as mental health, workforce automation, and de-addiction programs. Digital co-workers and AI marketing bots were also on display, reflecting how AI is revolutionizing human resources, from hiring to performance tracking.

IMC 2024 saw participation from educational institutions like IITs and IIMs. Notable innovations included BharatGen, a language model demonstrating advancements in AI research. IIT Kanpur’s C3iHub focused on cybersecurity for critical infrastructure, and Mahindra University students presented AI tools for improving shrimp farming.

Additionally, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) displayed AI-based innovations for smart agriculture and aquarium management.
