258.37 lakh mobile users opt for mobile number portability till November 2011: TRAI

TRAI announced that Mobile Number Portability (MNP) requests increased from
231.66 lakh subscribers at the end of October 2011 to 258.37 lakh subscribers
at the end of November 2011.


 

In the month of November, 2011 alone 26.71
lakh request have been made for MNP.


 

As per the data reported by the service
providers, by the end of November 2011 about 258.37 lakh subscribers have
submitted their requests to different service providers for porting their
mobile number.


 

In MNP Zone-I (Northern & Western
India) maximum number of requests have been received in Gujarat (24.86 lakh)
followed by Maharashtra (21.00 lakh) whereas in MNP Zone-II (Southern &
Eastern) maximum number of requests have been received in Karnataka (22.91
Lakh) followed by Andhra Pradesh Service area (22.71 lakh).


 

The number of telephone subscribers in
India increased to 917.33 million at the end of November, 2011 from 914.59
million at the end of October 2011, registering a growth rate of 0.30 percent.


 

The share of Urban subscribers has
marginally declined from 66.23 percent to 66.11 percent whereas share of Rural
Subscribers has marginally increased from 33.77 percent to 33.89 percent in the
month of November, 2011.


 

With this, the overall Tele-density in
India reaches to 76.18 at the end of November, 2011 from 76.03 of the previous
month.
