Nokia has been selected by the Vortex Group to modernize its IP edge and transport network across Maharashtra, Goa, and Gujarat. This strategic collaboration aims to enhance broadband speeds, improve network reliability, and enable Vortex to expand services to underserved areas, benefiting more than 150 smaller ISPs connected to its network.

The network modernization will include upgrading Vortex’s infrastructure to Nokia’s advanced Broadband Network Gateway (BNG) solution. By consolidating multiple lower-capacity BNGs into a single scalable system, Vortex will support over 200,000 subscribers while reducing CAPEX and OPEX. The upgrade also positions Vortex to introduce higher-speed broadband plans and scale operations rapidly across the three states.

The deployment will transition Vortex’s network from a Layer 2 (L2) to a Layer 3 (L3) IP/MPLS-based architecture, boosting operational efficiency and network capacity. Nokia will supply its 7250 IXR series routers and 7750 SR-1 BNGs, enabling Vortex to replace legacy BNGs and switches with high-capacity, scalable solutions designed for long-term growth.

Vineet Nishar, Managing Director of Vortex Group, highlighted that upgrading to Nokia’s IP/MPLS network will enhance broadband speed, reliability, and capacity, enabling Vortex to expand into Tier 3 and Tier 4 cities and bridge the digital divide in Maharashtra, Goa, and Gujarat.

Jivitesh Nayal, Head of Business Development for Network Infrastructure at Nokia India, said the deployment of 7750 SR-1 BNG and 7250 IXR routers will help Vortex modernize and scale its network efficiently, consolidate infrastructure, reduce operational costs, and support advanced services like IPTV, laying the foundation for a future-ready broadband architecture.
