Telecom network vendor UTStarcom announced the resignation of its chief executive officer (CEO) William Wong.

Wong has served as the CEO and as a director of UTStarcom since August 2012. UTStarcom did not share the reasons for the resignation of William Wong from the CEO position. William Wong was instrumental in reshuffling the telecom infrastructure maker.

Tim Ti will be the new CEO of UTStarcom.

Ti previously served as the CEO of Virtual Gateway Labs, a subsidiary of UTStarcom. Prior to that, Ti served various roles at UTStarcom, including senior vice president of Advanced Network Architecture Technologies, senior VP of Research & Development, and general manager of the Broadband Business Unit.

Before joining UTStarcom, Ti was director of Application & Marketing of Advanced Communication Devices Corporation, which was acquired by UTStarcom in 2001.

On December 4, 2015, Smart Soho, an investment holding company led by Guoping Gu, acquired 5,000,000 ordinary shares of UTStarcom and plans to acquire additional 6,739,932 ordinary shares in the first half of 2016.

Gu currently serves as the chairman of the Board of Shanghai Phicomm Communication.

“UTStarcom looks forward to work closely with Phicomm to explore exciting opportunities around the globe,” said Himanshu Shah, chairman of the Board of UTStarcom.
