The United States has been ranked the highest in the Huawei 2015 Global Connectivity Index (GCI) – fuelled by supply and demand of ICT services.
Sweden, Singapore, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom are the other top four countries in Huawei GCI for 2015.
India is in 15th position with 58 points.
Strengths of India in the Huawei GCI include App downloads, MBB subscriber growth, smartphone connections growth, MBB affordability. Challenges of India include International bandwidth per user, IPs/capita, MBB penetration, Avg. broadband download speed.
Chile, China, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are leading the developing markets. Strong mobile adoption and overall access are top observations. Data center investment and other core elements of ICT infrastructure are lagging in these countries. Datacenter investment by developed countries is three times that of developing countries, said Huawei.
The 2015 GCI shows that 20 percent growth in ICT investment will increase a country’s GDP by 1 percent. It also identifies five enablers of digital transformation – data centers, cloud services, Big Data, broadband, and the Internet of Things. These technologies represent the targets that stakeholders should focus their investments on in order to most efficiently transform their economies for the digital age.
