TIM, Huawei to develop Narrowband IoT technology

TIM ItalyTIM and Huawei signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the development of solutions for the Internet of Things technology of Narrowband (NB-IoT).

TIM will build the first Open Lab for research and innovation in Italy dedicated to the NB – IoT. Huawei made the key announcement at the Mobile World Congress (MWC 2016) in Barcelona.

TIM and Huawei will experience the NB-IoT solutions in the laboratory and in the field along with partners from different industrial sectors, promoting the introduction and adoption of the IoT technology in the market.

NB-IoT technology allows low power consumption, greater network coverage and the ability to connect large numbers of objects in a convenient way. This technology can be adopted as part of the system of detection of energy counters, logistics, agriculture smart, as well as in security, finance, transportation, and industrial automation.

Gabriela Styf Sjoman, head of Engineering & TILab TIM, said: “This partnership with Huawei will accelerate international standardization and stimulate industrial synergies with other partners in anticipation of the service design and innovative solutions.”
