Tigo selects Gemalto to deliver M2M solutions in Latin America

Gemalto

Tigo, a mobile network operator in Colombia and part of the Millicom Group, has selected Gemalto to deliver M2M solutions in Latin America.

The initial roll out will be in Colombia. As per the IoT deal, Tigo customers will use Gemalto’s Cinterion Machine Identification Modules (MIMs) and MIM services to improve preventive maintenance with remote monitoring and management of MIMs in the field.

The solutions optimize performance of M2M applications for any vertical market including fleet management, smart metering, remote asset management, surveillance and alarms, automotive and mHealth solutions.

Cinterion MIM Services Platform improves quality of service by monitoring signal strength and network-based localization events among other features, tracking and tracing devices, enabling remote module configuration and seamlessly switching to other channels when needed.

In addition, audit services monitor MIMs over their entire lifespan and send alerts when predetermined usage thresholds are met. This allows updates before issues arise ensuring continuous service and strong revenue streams are maintained.

“Gemalto’s MIM Card is now available in the Colombian market for all different vertical applications and it will help us guarantee a more stable service for a longer term for commercial and industrial applications and help our customers reduce operational costs and prevent potential fraud or failures in service,” said Santiago Londono, Commercial Vice President for B2B from Tigo UNE.

It’s expected that there will be 2.1 billion M2M connections by 2020.
