Qualcomm unveils Wake-on-Wireless on Acer Aspire S5 Ultrabook

Telecom Lead Asia: Qualcomm Atheros at COMPUTEX TAIPEI in Taiwan has
unveiled its Wake-on-Wireless (WoW) Cloud solution for computing platforms,
debuting in the new Acer Aspire S5 Ultrabook.

With WoW Acer Ultrabooks can wake up remotely, connect to
the AcerCloud while the system is in idle or sleep mode, transfer content
remotely, and go back to sleep, to deliver instant-on and always-connected
capability.

Qualcomm
Atheros’ WoW Cloud-enabled AR9462 chip is the market’s first solution capable
of both PCIe offload and remote cloud connectivity on a WLAN product.  It is offered as a new feature supported in
Qualcomm Atheros’ dual-band (2.4/5 GHz), 2-stream 802.11n and Bluetooth 4.0
single-chip combo solution. This new capability enables Qualcomm Atheros to
help usher in a new era of cloud-connected computing platforms.

“We are proud to be launching our Wake-on-Wireless
Cloud software solution for the first time with the company that gave the world
its thinnest Ultrabook,” said Vivek Gupta, vice president and general
manager of computing, Qualcomm Atheros. “Optimizing the Acer S5’s
connectivity to the AcerCloud is another way that Qualcomm Atheros is
demonstrating its commitment to continuously advance mobile connectivity
solutions.”

“Our vision at Acer is to provide our customers, who
are increasingly shifting personal multimedia and data content from their
computers to the cloud, easy anytime and anywhere remote access,” said
David Lee, assistant vice president of the mobile computing business unit,
Acer. “Qualcomm Atheros has played a role in helping make the feature
ready”.

AcerCloud is available on Acer consumer PCs and Acer
Android-enabled devices.
