Proxim enables mobile wireless video surveillance network on Tram System

Proxim
Wireless, a provider of complete outdoor wireless backhaul systems, announced
that Metropolitano de Tenerife (MTSA) has deployed Proxim’s Tsunami MP.11
products to create a mobile wireless video surveillance network for its
Tenerife Tram System on Tenerife, the largest of the Canary Islands.

This
tram system links Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the capital, with Avenida de la
Trinidad in La Laguna, the second-most populous city on the island.

MTSA
deployed the wireless video surveillance network to enhance security and
emergency response on board trains and at its stations. The system’s 26 trams
travel at speeds of up to 60 km/h while traversing 15 km of track passing
through tunnels, tight curves, and narrow streets.

Proxim’s
Tsunami MP.11 series subscriber and base station units were rapidly and
cost-effectively deployed to address those challenges. Advantages to utilizing
Proxim Wireless’ video backhaul solutions include low capital and operational
costs, high-reliability, and ease of installation.

“The
safety of travelers and public infrastructure is a top concern for governments
and transit system operators around the globe,” said Ramon Lumnitz, vice president
of European and African Sales for Proxim Wireless.
