The Finland-based Nokia will push for accelerated 3GPP industry standardization while building on early customer experiences with its Nokia 5G FIRST solution launched at Mobile World Congress 2017.

Telecom operators in markets like the U.S., China, Japan and South Korea are keen to invest in 5G mobility applications. Nokia will implement early 5G specifications, enhancing 5G FIRST with the 3GPP 5G Phase I protocol. 5G NR (New Radio) air interface standard, which is due at the beginning of 2018, is designed to support a variety of 5G devices and services.

Nokia will expand 5G FIRST to drive market adoption of 5G, via mobility and fixed applications, as well as testing multiple 5G use cases.

“Through 5G FIRST, Nokia is evolving its 5G strategy to drive the industry towards the adoption of standards-based commercial applications – as early as 2019,” said Marc Rouanne, president of Mobile Networks at Nokia.

Recently, ZTE demonstrated a Pre5G gigabit rate solution in TD-LTE network in Quanzhou, Fujian. They tested the Quanzhou Mobile TD-LTE network with multi-carrier aggregation, 4×4 MIMO and 256QAM, achieving peak rate of 1Gbps.

Meanwhile, ZTE said research firm GlobalData has recognized ZXCTN 609, a transmission network solution from ZTE, for its network slicing innovations and support for 100G links.
