Nokia and Globe Telecom Collaborate to Boost Energy Efficiency in Philippine Networks

Nokia has revealed its innovative AVA Energy Efficiency software will assist Globe Telecom, a leading Philippine communication service provider, to significantly reduce network power usage and associated costs.
Globe Telecom 5G networkThe AVA for Energy SaaS, powered by artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms, offers Globe Telecom the capability to automatically deactivate idle or underutilized equipment during periods of low network usage. This innovative approach ensures optimal operational efficiency and cost reduction while upholding network quality.

By adopting a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) delivery model, Globe Telecom gains the flexibility of on-demand access through a subscription-based service. This model eliminates hefty upfront capital investments, streamlines service delivery, and negates the necessity for on-site software maintenance and updates, offering substantial time-to-value benefits.

During a proof of concept, Globe Telecom observed a notable annual power savings equivalent to approximately 3-6 percent by leveraging Nokia’s AVA Energy Efficiency software in conjunction with the power-saving features embedded in the radio access network.

Nokia boasts a portfolio of over 50 active or completed energy-saving projects in collaboration with communication service providers worldwide. This initiative aligns with the industry’s growing emphasis on reducing energy costs and addressing environmental sustainability concerns within their networks.

Susanna Patja, APJ Market Leader, Cloud and Network Services at Nokia, expressed enthusiasm for supporting Globe Telecom in their drive to minimize the telco industry’s carbon footprint. She highlighted Nokia AVA for Energy SaaS as a testament to their commitment to leveraging AI for network efficiency and reducing emissions across their value chain.

Yoly Crisanto, Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer of the Globe Group, emphasized their delight in expanding the partnership with Nokia through the AVA for Energy SaaS solution. She emphasized the strategic importance of efficient energy consumption in their network decarbonization initiatives and achieving net-zero targets, foreseeing significant power cost reductions without compromising customer experience.

The collaboration between Nokia and Globe Telecom underscores a pivotal step toward enhancing energy efficiency in telecommunications networks, driving both financial savings and environmental sustainability.
