NEC Achieves Throughput of 1.3 Tbps in 5G Core Networks

NEC Corporation has announced that its User Plane Function (UPF) for processing user data traffic in 5G core networks (5GC) has achieved an unparalleled throughput of 1.3 Tbps per server. This achievement was realized on Intel servers equipped with 4th generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors.
Intel 4th Gen Xeon Scalable ProcessorsIn recent years, NEC has spearheaded efforts to enhance UPF performance and processing efficiency by implementing advanced optimization techniques, including CPU processing optimization, accelerated memory access, and reduction of memory access delays.

Furthermore, NEC has prioritized energy efficiency by leveraging Intel Infrastructure Power Manager, effectively mitigating the impact of rising power consumption in alignment with its commitment to carbon neutrality.
