MWC 2014: Ericsson to add new Network Manager

At the Mobile World Congress 2014, Ericsson will announce its new Network Manager.

The strategy behind the launch is to transform the way networks are managed, said Ericsson in a statement.

The telecom equipment vendor said the new unified management system is designed to deliver high-performing networks that are adaptive to changes in world outside of what operators can control.

Ericsson does not share specific benefits to telecom operators.

The new network manager manages full network scope for mobility, transport and IP in one solution and removes barriers between network domains for smarter decision making, reduces operational complexity and improves efficiency through better automation and policy control.

It assists telecom operators such as Bharti Airtel, Verizon, China Mobile, etc. in the management of hybrid networks, ranging from multi-standard radio, small cell and integrated Wi-Fi in indoor environments, Time Division Multiplexing, evolved IP networks, virtual network infrastructures and dynamic networking with Software Defined Networks (SDN).

Recently, Infonetics said most equipment segments will grow in 2013, with the exception of voice, broadband aggregation, and video infrastructure. Global telecom carrier Capex will grow at a 2 percent compound annual growth rate (CAGR) from 2012 to 2017, reaching $355 billion. Wireless players are expected to continue their Capex through 2017 at the expense of incumbents, who will see their share shrink.

Ericsson said this solution improves network performance and cuts operational costs by integrating and automating management functions across domains. Performing analysis in the cross-domain data layer enables new, superior insights for policy-based programmability. Ericsson Network Manager is an integrated part of Ericsson’s full OSS portfolio for multi-vendor management and is fully scalable for the network needs of tomorrow.

“This new style of management allows us to go from a reactive management to proactive and predictive programmability of the network. By unifying the world of management systems, our vision is to cut in half the time-to-market for network services,” said Thomas Norén, vice president and head of Product Area Radio, Ericsson.
