Indus Towers revenue grows 6.5% as operators spend on 5G coverage

Indus Towers has reported revenue of Rs 71,932 million (up 6.5 percent) for the quarter ended March 31, 2024.
IHS telecom towersIndus Towers said expenses were Rs 30,906 million, or 43.0 percent of revenues from operations. The largest component of expenses was power and fuel, amounting to Rs 26,725 million. The other expenses were repair & maintenance (operations and maintenance costs of the network) of Rs 3,533 million and employee benefits expenses of Rs 2,031 million.

Indus Towers reported net profit of Rs 18,531 million.

Indus Towers incurred capital expenditure of Rs 25,416 million for quarter ended March 31, 2023.

Operators such as Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio have added more than 435,000 5G base stations, as per the latest Government statistics.

Nokia MBiT Index Report 2024 says 5G subscribers are expected to grow to ~575 million by 2026 from 131 million in 2023. 17 percent of the active 4G devices are capable of offering 5G. The contribution of 5G to total data traffic has increased from 1.7 percent in 2022 to ~15 percent in 2023. 5G users consume up to 3.6x more data compared to 4G users.

Indus Towers operated 219,736 macro towers with 368,588 macro colocations in 22 telecommunications circles in India at the end of March 2024. Macro co-locations increased by 7,909. Exits were 429. Indus had average sharing factor of 1.69 per tower. Lean colocation additions aggregated to 692. Lean colocations stand at 10,686.
