IHS Towers and Airtel Nigeria Forge Partnership to Boost Mobile Connectivity

IHS Nigeria, a prominent player in shared communications infrastructure globally, said Airtel Nigeria plans to secure 3,950 tenancies over the next five years, with the majority expected to materialize during 2024 and 2025.
Airtel Africa InternetAdditionally, the agreement extends the term of existing tenancies covering approximately 6,000 sites until December 2031. The collaboration also entails 2,500 colocations and includes provisions for 5G enhancements and the construction of build-to-suit sites to be owned and managed by IHS Nigeria.

Both companies have agreed to collaborate on new green initiatives for the collective sites moving forward. This aligns with Airtel Africa’s sustainability strategy launched in October 2021 and IHS Towers’ Carbon Reduction Roadmap, which aims to reduce the company’s intensity metric by 50 percent by 2030.

Sam Darwish, Chairman & CEO of IHS Towers, expressed enthusiasm about the expansion and renewal of the partnership with Airtel Nigeria, highlighting their joint commitment to meeting Africa’s connectivity demands.

IHS Towers operates across 11 markets, including Nigeria, Brazil, Cameroon, Colombia, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Kuwait, Peru, Rwanda, South Africa, and Zambia. With nearly 40,000 towers in its portfolio, the company remains focused on serving emerging markets with innovative solutions to meet the growing demands of mobile connectivity.
