Huawei was awarded the Digital Nation Award for ‘Excellence in Innovation Video’ for its short film, Smart 5G Warehouse – Future of Logistics at the GSMA Mobile 360 (M360) Asia Pacific 2024 event in Seoul, Korea.
The video showcases how 5G technology is driving digital transformation across industries, with a particular focus on logistics. Filmed at Indonesia’s first 5G Smart Warehouse and Innovation Center, it highlights the role of 5G in improving operational efficiency and contributing to Indonesia’s Golden Vision 2045 — a roadmap for a modern, digital economy.
James Chen, President of Huawei Carrier Business, during his keynote at the event, discussed the transformative potential of 5G and artificial intelligence (AI) for the mobile industry. James Chen emphasized how the integration of 5G-A and AI is unlocking new growth avenues for carriers by enabling large-scale personalization and innovative services.
Revolutionizing Carrier Services with AI and 5G
James Chen outlined new ways that 5G and AI can be monetized, citing 5G New Calling as an example. This service uses AI to enhance voice calls by providing real-time suggestions, intent recognition, and even acting as a personal intelligent assistant. With over 22 million subscribers in China by September 2024, 5G New Calling demonstrates how AI can enrich user experiences.
In collaboration with carriers in the Asia-Pacific region, Huawei is also piloting advanced AI applications. These include real-time digital humans in Hong Kong and multilingual translation services in Thailand. The integration of AI in these services represents a shift towards more personalized and intelligent communication technologies.
Cloud Phone and AI Integration
James Chen also spotlighted Huawei’s Cloud Phone, a product that leverages the power of 5G and cloud computing to deliver high-quality experiences without the limitations of physical devices. By addressing issues like limited storage and data consumption, Cloud Phone is revitalized through AI, offering personalized virtual assistants and access to a range of AI-powered applications.
The Future of 5G and AI Integration
Looking ahead, James Chen predicted a massive rise in AI integration by 2030, with around 8 billion AI-powered assistants in homes and 1 to 3 billion AI robots in industries like manufacturing and research. James Chen urged telecom operators to explore new business models and leverage personalized user experiences to drive commercial success.
