At MWC Barcelona 2026, Huawei introduced U6GHz products and solutions aimed at unlocking the full potential of 5G-Advanced (5G-A) and enabling a seamless transition toward 6G. The new suite is designed to deliver ultra-large capacity, ultra-low latency, and premium user experience to support the fast-growing demands of the mobile AI era.

Mobile AI Surge Reshapes Network Requirements
Artificial intelligence is rapidly becoming the foundation of the intelligent world. According to International Data Corporation, global monthly active users of AI applications have surpassed 1 billion. AI-powered smartphones now account for more than 50 percent of new shipments, while AI glasses and other emerging devices are witnessing annual growth exceeding 50 percent. Token consumption has also surged by hundreds of times over the past year.
This explosive AI growth is creating new network challenges. Multimodal AI interactions are driving uplink traffic demand three to five times higher than before. Real-time AI decision-making requires deterministic low-latency connectivity. At the same time, ubiquitous AI agents demand highly secure and reliable wide-area networks.
These evolving requirements are accelerating the shift toward 5G-A and laying the groundwork for 6G.
U6GHz Emerges as a Strategic Band for 5G-A and 6G
The U6GHz spectrum band, recognized for its large bandwidth and strong coverage characteristics, is becoming central to 5G-A commercial expansion. Following discussions at World Radiocommunication Conference 2023, U6GHz has been designated as a key band for mobile communications.
Countries including China, the UAE, Brazil, and several European markets are advancing spectrum identification, allocation, and testing activities. Industry momentum is also building, with mainstream CPEs and smartphones expected to support U6GHz commercially in 2026, paving the way for large-scale deployments.
Huawei’s U6GHz Portfolio: Macro, Micro and Microwave
Huawei’s end-to-end U6GHz portfolio spans macro base stations, micro sites, indoor small cells, and microwave transmission solutions. The company aims to maximize the ultra-large bandwidth advantages of U6GHz while meeting the high capacity and low latency demands of AI-driven services.
High-Capacity Outdoor Coverage with U6GHz AAUs
For outdoor deployment, Huawei launched a series of U6GHz Active Antenna Units (AAUs).
The 256 TRX AAU incorporates an Extremely Large Antenna Array design combined with digital-analog hybrid intelligent beamforming. This enables coverage performance comparable to C-band deployments. With hyper-resolution MU-MIMO algorithms and 400 MHz bandwidth, the system can deliver downlink capacity of up to 100 Gbps and uplink capacity exceeding 10 Gbps. It also enables peak user experience of 10 Gbps downlink and 1 Gbps uplink, addressing the connectivity pressure from massive AI devices and applications.
Huawei plans to introduce additional U6GHz AAU configurations with flexible channel and array combinations, allowing operators to tailor 5G-A deployments to diverse scenarios while preparing for 6G evolution.
Indoor AI Connectivity with U6GHz Small Cells
To meet high concurrency requirements in indoor environments, Huawei introduced U6GHz small cell products supporting 400 MHz bandwidth. These solutions integrate and coordinate U6GHz with all sub-6 GHz bands, ensuring consistent service quality across indoor and outdoor locations.
The simplified design and deployment approach enables operators to deliver seamless multi-dimensional AI experiences, ensuring high-quality connectivity for AI applications in enterprises, commercial buildings, and public venues.
Microwave Transport for 5G-A Peak Traffic
In the transport domain, Huawei unveiled new microwave solutions to handle the high-bandwidth backhaul needs of U6GHz base stations. Featuring industry-unique full-duplex technology, these products significantly enhance transmission capacity and efficiency.
The microwave innovations are designed to meet peak traffic demands of 5G-A networks while establishing a scalable transport foundation for future 6G architectures.
Enabling 5G-A Growth and 6G Readiness
As AI adoption accelerates globally, U6GHz is emerging as a critical enabler for both present and future wireless networks. Huawei’s commercially available U6GHz product suite addresses immediate capacity challenges in 5G-A deployments and ensures a smooth evolutionary path toward 6G.
