Huawei remains a leading player in the Mobile Core Network (MCN) market, securing its position as the top-ranked vendor, according to the Dell’Oro Group’s 3Q 2024 report. Despite fluctuating market conditions, Huawei continues to maintain a competitive edge against Ericsson, Nokia, and ZTE in the MCN market.
Mobile Core Network market saw a 12 percent year-over-year (Y/Y) increase in Q3 2024, recovering from a 15 percent decline in the previous quarter. Huawei played a pivotal role in this resurgence, benefiting from its strong presence in the 5G Mobile Core Network segment.
On a rolling 4-quarter average, the total MCN market declined by 4 percent Y/Y, while the 5G MCN market grew by 5 percent Y/Y, reflecting Huawei’s ability to adapt to shifting market trends.
Huawei has been instrumental in the deployment of 5G Standalone (5G SA) networks. As of 2024, 63 Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) across 35 countries have commercially launched 5G SA eMBB networks.
While the pace of 5G SA deployments has slowed compared to previous years, Huawei remains well-positioned to support MNOs as they transition to 5G SA, leveraging its advanced technology and strong market presence.
The slowing deployment of 5G SA networks presents challenges for telecom network vendors, including Huawei, as it reduces short-term revenue opportunities. However, Huawei’s ability to lead in regions like EMEA and Asia-Pacific (excluding China) positions it for sustained growth as these markets expand.
The projected 11 percent Y/Y growth in the 5G MCN market for 2025 suggests significant opportunities for Huawei to capitalize on its innovation and extensive market share.
While the 4G MCN and VoLTE/VoNR markets are experiencing declining growth, Huawei’s diversification into next-generation networks, including 5G and edge computing, enables it to offset losses in these segments.
Huawei’s leadership in the 3Q 2024 MCN market underscores its dominance and adaptability in a highly dynamic telecommunications landscape. With its continued focus on innovation and global deployment of 5G solutions, Huawei is well-positioned to navigate the challenges of a slowing market while capitalizing on emerging opportunities in the 5G business.
