Huawei revenue up 9.8 percent to $35.57 billion, profit up 34 percent in 2012

Telecom Lead Asia: Huawei said its sales revenues rose to 9.8 percent $35.57 billion (220.19 billion yuan) in 2012 against $32.39 billion in 2011.

The Chinese ICT solutions provider’s net profit grew 34.05 percent to $2.48 billion (15.38 billion yuan) last year from $1.85 billion in 2011.

Operational efficiency assisted Huawei to record significant increase in profit.

In the next five years, Huawei forecasts a compound annual growth rate of 10 percent.

Guo Ping, Huawei’s Rotating and Acting CEO, said: “ICT will continue to grow, with new opportunities coming from cloud computing, BYOD (Bring Your Own Device), and big data, and feature phones being replaced by smartphones at a faster rate.”

Huawei, which is facing security issues in some of the overseas markets including India and the U.S., will continue to focus on its pipe strategy, integrate and develop businesses around the information pipe, and create value for customers, while achieving sustainable and effective growth.

Telecom Business

Huawei’s Carrier Network BG grew 6.7 percent to achieve 160.1 billion yuan in sales revenue.

Enterprise Business

Huawei’s Enterprise BG increased 25.8 percent to 11.5 billion yuan in sales revenue.

Consumer and Handset Business

Huawei’s consumer BG’s (including handset) sales revenue reached 48.4 billion yuan, an increase of 8.4 percent year-on-year.


Geographical performance


Growth in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) contributed record regional sales revenue of 77.4 billion yuan, an increase of 6.1 percent year-on-year.

In the Asia Pacific region, sales revenue was 37.4 billion yuan, an increase of 7.2 percent year-on-year; in the Americas, sales revenue was 31.8 billion yuan, an increase of 4.3 percent year-on-year. Huawei generated 73.6 billion yuan revenue from China, an increase of 12.2 percent year-on-year.

In 2012, Huawei invested 30.09 billion yuan, or 13.7 percent, of its total sales revenue into research and development (R&D). The company has established 16 R&D centers and 28 joint innovation centers across the world.

Thanks to the continuous expansion of professional services as well as the rapid growth of infrastructure networks in West Europe, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, and other countries and regions, Huawei earned 77.414 billion yuan from Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), which marks an increase of 6.1 percent year-on-year.

By maintaining sound growth momentum in Japan, Indonesia, Thailand, Australia, and other markets in the Asia Pacific region, Huawei increased its sales revenue by 7.2 percent year-on- year to 37.359 billion yuan.

In the American region, Huawei experienced robust growth in infrastructure networks across Latin America, and enjoyed prosperity in the consumer business in North America. The successes in the American region helped Huawei generate 31.846 billion yuan in sales revenue, an increase of 4.3 percent year-on-year.

Huawei will strengthen its research in such areas as video, audio, touch control, image processing, and emotional experience algorithms, promote user centric design (UCD), and provide users with a collaborative and consistent experience across screens.

In addition, the company will provide high-quality and easy-to-maintain products as well as personalized business support systems (BSSs) and operation support systems (OSSs). We will also build a supply chain that is visible to customers, and enable user-friendly and convenient transaction and delivery processes.
