Huawei inks 2G, 3G and 4G networks deal with Telenor for five years

Telecom network vendor Huawei today announced 2G and 3G networks modernization deal with Telenor in Asia and Europe.

The main focus will be sprucing up Telenor’s mobile broadband network.

As per the telecom network deal, Huawei will supply radio access equipment (RAN) and professional services over a five year period.

Huawei did not disclose financial details of the deal.

“We are delighted to sign this five years agreement to provide core assets to support Telenor achieve commercial success in mobile broadband,” said David Wang, president of Huawei Wireless Network Product Line.

Hilde Tonne of Telenor

Huawei today said the global frame agreement focuses on modernizing Telenor’s existing 2G and 3G networks and offers Telenor’s subsidiaries 2G, 3G and 4G technologies through Huawei’s innovative solutions and professional services.

“LTE is a key area of focus for Telenor and with Huawei experience in building and supplying radio access equipment and professional services, Telenor will bring superior mobile broadband experiences to end users,” said Hilde Tonne, EVP and head of Group Industrial Development, Telenor Group.

In October, Ericsson, the main competitor of Huawei, also announced a 5-year telecom network deal with Telenor. Ericsson will supply radio hardware and professional services. The deal covers the rollout of 2G, 3G and 4G technologies, as well as installation, operational support, hardware and software support, and maintenance. Ericsson will offer RBS6000 family of base stations as part of the agreement.

According to Dell’Oro Group’s Quarterly Mobile RAN Report, 2Q14, total RAN (macro and small cell) market is expected to advance at a low single-digit rate for a second consecutive year in 2014 while the market is expected to decline in 2015.

Ericsson, Huawei, and Nokia accounted for 33 percent, 24 percent, and 17 percent of the combined WCDMA / LTE market in H1 2014. Ericsson, Huawei, and Alcatel-Lucent held the number one, two and three rankings for LTE RAN revenues, in the second quarter.
