Fujitsu and Chunghwa Telecom to Advance All-Photonics Network Technology

Fujitsu and Chunghwa Telecom will be jointly exploring the implementation of a network utilizing All-Photonics Network (APN) technology based on the IOWN initiative in Taiwan.

The partnership between Fujitsu and Chunghwa Telecom will involve the establishment of a verification facility for APN technology in Taiwan, with Fujitsu playing a pivotal role in promoting its adoption within commercial networks.

Fujitsu will leverage its experience and knowledge from Japan to contribute to the formulation and early commercialization of APN construction plans tailored to Taiwan’s telecommunications landscape.

The collaboration aims to enhance the development of infrastructure supporting societal needs and daily life in Taiwan.

Vivek Mahajan, SEVP, CTO, and CPO at Fujitsu, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, highlighting Fujitsu’s commitment to leveraging its APN experience to enhance the network environment, address societal challenges, and minimize the environmental footprint of network operations in Taiwan.

Chih-Hsiung Huang, SEVP & CTO at Chunghwa Telecom, highlighted the joint effort to develop an Open All-Photonic Network, aimed at enhancing optical communication quality for innovative applications such as B5G/6G, AI, and cloud computing.
