Ericsson wins 5G network deal from US Cellular

Ericsson has won a contract for managing 5G network deployment for US Cellular.
U.S. Cellular CTO Michael S IrizarryEricsson is already working with all the US-based telecom operators such as AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint for their 5G network projects.

Sweden-based Ericsson will supply standards-based 5G New Radio (NR) hardware and software to US Cellular. Ericsson will support US Cellular’s network modernization from its LTE network to 5G, Niklas Heuveldop, president and head of Ericsson North America, said.

Michael S Irizarry, chief technology officer of U.S. Cellular, said: “Ericsson is committed to meeting our deployment timeline in order to bring 5G to our customers in the second half of 2019.”

US Cellular has already conducted testing of various 5G use cases in rural and suburban areas in Madison, Wisconsin. The companies tested virtual reality, augmented reality, advanced beamforming, massive MIMO, dynamic TDD, and large channel bandwidth under a variety of real-world conditions.
