Ericsson Plans 1,600 Staff Reductions in Sweden to Strengthen Competitive Position

Ericsson has announced that it will reduce employees in Sweden as part of its strategy to maintain competitiveness and operational efficiency.

The telecom equipment maker indicated that around 1,600 positions could be affected, with formal notice submitted to the Swedish Public Employment Service. Negotiations with the relevant Swedish trade unions are already underway.

In Sweden, Ericsson had employee base of 12,967 at the end of Sep 30, 2025 as compared with 13,476 in June and 13,222 in March.

Globally, Ericsson had employee base of 89,898 at the end of September 30, 2025 as compared with 91,937 in June and 92,866 in March.

The proposed reductions are part of Ericsson’s global initiatives to improve its cost structure while continuing investments critical to its technology leadership. The company emphasized that these measures are designed to support the execution of its strategy to deliver high-performing, programmable networks. These networks aim to enable differentiated services and unlock new monetization opportunities for Ericsson and its clients.

“Operational efficiency remains a priority for Ericsson globally. Other initiatives to streamline operations will continue across the Group but will not be announced separately,” Ericsson said in a news statement.

Industry experts note that these measures reflect Ericsson’s ongoing efforts to adapt to market dynamics while maintaining its position in the competitive telecommunications infrastructure sector. Ericsson reported sales revenue of SEK 56.2 billion in Q3-2025 against SEK 61.8 billion in Q3-2024 with net income of SEK 11.3 billion against SEK 3.9 billion.
