CityFibre selects Calix for 10 Gbps connections

CityFibre has selected Calix to deploy the world’s only Software Defined Access (SDA) operating system (OS) across its fibre network in UK.

The deployment of Calix’s AXOS platform will support the strategy of CityFibre to deliver 10 Gbps connections to home and business. The fibre network has the potential for speeds of up to 100 Gbps.

CityFibre’s carrier, mobile operator and ISP customers will gain access to programmability, network intelligence and automation without the upfront capital risk. This will reshape how they architect their own networks and enable them to deliver differentiated services with better customer experience.

The Calix AXOS platform will ensure a single unified, intelligent access network. Besides, the Calix AXOS platform will support CityFibre to leverage innovative technologies like NG-PON2 and enable automation of manual functions across the network. CityFibre will cut network operating complexity and costs while deploying future services.

CityFibre’s networks will accelerate the development of smart technologies for homes, businesses and cities, while catalysing the roll-outs of 5G and IoT.

“The ability to scale interne t services up to 100 gigabits per second, while driving customer experience to new levels, highlights the inadequacies of connections that are passed off as fibre today,” said Greg Mesch, chief executive of CityFibre.

Michael Weening, executive vice president of field operations at Calix, in a statement said that AXOS supports CityFibre to deliver new products, services and features to the Internet market, distancing itself from legacy competitive offerings that fail to enable true market differentiation.
