Cisco inks deal with Altice to deploy converged cable platform

Cisco today announced its deal with Altice to deploy converged cable access platform (CCAP) across several countries.

Initially, Altice will deploy Cisco CCAP solution in France to ensure a long-term evolution of its cable access architecture by gaining from DOCSIS 3.1 capabilities.

DOCSIS 3.1 capabilities allow Altice to scale the bandwidth to up to 10 Gbps, across the fiber-deep access network of Numericable-SFR in France, and other operators within the group.

Cisco lost three points in telecom service provider router market share in 2013

The Cisco platform will also allow Altice to offer a range of faster Internet speeds over its cable network.

Max Blumberg, chief technology officer, Altice Group, said: “This step is part of our investment strategy. We are building the next generation of fixed mobile converged networks. With a combination of Cisco’s Evolved CCAP, DOCSIS 3.1 and migration to NFV/SDN, Altice will continue providing the best customer experience, based on the highest bandwidth and cutting edge technology.”
