Aptilo selected by Batelco for Wi-Fi in Bahrain

Aptilo Networks has been opted by Batelco to provide carrier Wi-Fi for Bahrain Wi-Fi. Bahrain Wifi is a national Wifi network offering communication offerings all over the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The network company will be using the Aptilo Service Management Platform (SMP), which claims to deliver and manage Wi-Fi services by providing carrier Wi-Fi in a highly scalable platform.
The company will backup Batelco in its plan to activate Wi-Fi hotspots dynamically.
The nationwide Wi-Fi rollout triggered off with a number of locations like The Bahrain International Circuit, Seef Mall Muharraq and the Juffair Restaurant area, with more locations in line to be opened by the end of 2016.
“Batelco’s effort to cover Bahrain with Wi-Fi demonstrates the company’s commitment in developing relevant Smart City solutions which help to maintain Bahrain’s leading position on the international market,” said Muna AlHashemi, CEO Eng, Batelco Bahrain.
Batelco initiated the process by offering Wi-Fi for the Bahrain International Circuit during the 2016 Formula One weekend, marking the circuit as a first with free public Wi-Fi.
Around 70,000 visitors were recorded to have connected to the Bahrain Wi-Fi network consuming over one terabyte of Wi-Fi traffic.
The Bahrain population along-with tourists can avail free WiFI facilities, once the networks are in place.
All devices using WiFi can access Bahrain Wi-Fi via a landing page while using the allotted limited complimentary data per day. The users can then move to the Bahrain Wi-Fi portal activated by Aptilo SMP to continue availing the service after payment.
Once registered all customers will be automatically logged in the next time when they are in the range of any Wi-Fi hotspot.
This is an effort directed to make Bahrain a top technology hub, conveyed Christian Jonsson, director Sales, Africa and the Middle East, Aptilo Networks.
