Telecom vendor Alcatel-Lucent has overtaken NSN to become the number three player in the LTE RAN revenue share in the third quarter, said Dell’Oro Group.
However, NSN maintained the number three LTE position on a four-quarter trailing basis, the LTE research report said.
Ericsson continues to lead the LTE infrastructure with a 15 point four-quarter trailing share lead over number two, Huawei.
Dell’Oro Group does not share specific market share of Ericsson and other telecom vendors in the LTE RAN space.
Earlier, Ericsson claimed that it serves 50 percent of the world’s LTE smartphone traffic, which is more than double the traffic of its closest competitor. Ericsson delivered more than 180 LTE RAN and Evolved Packet Core networks, of which more than 110 have gone live commercially. Ericsson is present in all high-traffic LTE markets including the US, Japan, South Korea, Australia and Canada, and has been selected by nine of the top 10 LTE operators as ranked by LTE subscriptions worldwide.
Dell’Oro Group says the the total RAN (2G, 3G, 4G, excluding TD-SCDMA and SP WiFi) market declined approximately one percent year-over-year in Q3.
“Even though growth is slowing down in some of the more advanced Mobile Broadband (MBB) markets, we are now seeing great demand for LTE in other markets, particularly Europe, with LTE RAN revenues more than doubling year-over-year,” said Stefan Pongratz, director of Mobile RAN research at the Dell’Oro Group.
Total RAN market is expected to grow in 2014, as growth in China offsets declines in the U.S. and Japan.
Small Cell RAN market with small cell revenues is expected to account for approximately one percent of total RAN revenues in 2014.
