Telecom network vendor Alcatel-Lucent announced its deal with OPT New Caledonia for a national DWDM transport network supporting growth in mobile and fixed broadband.
The network of OPT New Caledonia comprises more than 50 branch post offices, 55 mobile postal services routes, 58 mail delivery rounds and more than 500 sales outlets.
Alcatel-Lucent will deploy packet transport solution across all inhabited territories of New Caledonia over the next three years.
OPT New Caledonia’s 2017 Strategic Plan includes strengthening of its optical backbone, expanding its mobile network and switching 65,000 customers to fiber in eight years. 73,000 customers are currently connected via ADSL.
Alcatel-Lucent will migrate existing transport platforms to the Alcatel-Lucent 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS) WDM platform, with its Service Router Operating System- (SROS) compatible integrated packet transport technology, allowing the transfer of packet traffic over the optical network.
Auxence Fafin, deputy CEO of OPT New Caledonia, said: “This network will meet growing demand for mobile and fixed Internet, data and voice services across Greater Noumea, providing high levels of availability and throughput of up to 10Gbps to meet our future digital strategy directions.”
